Starting off our look at national music news headlines today is a story that hits us close to our “Gossip Girl” home. On the episode right before Valentine’s Day, a special musical guest will appear on the hit CW show.

Indie rock act St. Vincent will perform two hits, “Strange Mercy” and “Cruel and Cheerleader,” on February 13. If you keep up with the world of Manhattan's elite, you’ll know that they are a very music savvy group of youngsters. Past performers on the show have included Florence + the Machine, No Doubt, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, and the crazy Lady Gaga herself.

St. Vincent will add to those stellar ranks.

So just who is St. Vincent?

That would be Annie Clark, one of the members of The Polyphonic Spree and a touring member of Sufjan Stevens. And just like the characters on CW’s “Gossip Girl,” she is a resident of Manhattan.

For the past decade, musician appearances and features on television shows have really helped to boost lesser known artists such as St. Vincent. So what about the mega-stars? Apparently all they have to do is tweet about their desirer to be on a show.

In what is surely a well-planned media ploy, Britney Spears sent out a message to the twitterspere that got a lot of buzz.

According to Billboard Magazine, the pop-diva tweeted, “I know everybody is excited about the Super Bowl, but I personally can’t wait to see the next episode of ‘Modern Family!’ Funniest show on TV.”

From there, “Modern Family’s” Sofia Vergara retweeted, and Britney’s manager asked fans, “Britney Spears on ‘Modern Family?’ What do you guys think?”

And thus a new hash-tag was born; #GetBritneyOnModernFamily.

So, will she or won’t she?

Guess that's up to the Twitter gods to decide.

Another blonde mega-singer will make a couple television appearances. Unlke Britney, these are actually confirmed.

Carry Underwood is set to appear on “CMT Crossroads” with Steven Tyler on Saturday, Feb. 4, as well as the 54th Grammy Awards on Feb. 12.

The “American Idol” contestant turned mega-star is also set to release her fourth studio album on Tuesday, May 1. Her television performances, however, will no doubt help to support the release of the first track on that new collection. The song “Good Girl” is scheduled to make it to radio on February 23.

So in case you were wondering, Carry Underwood has sold over 14 million records and has topped the country singles charts with 14 songs. She’s won five Grammy Awards and is a nominee this year, too. She’s accomplished all of that since releasing her debut album in 2005. Plus, she’s only 28-years old.

One year younger, but no less famous, is Katy Perry. The recent headline-prone pop star is considering taking the 3D plunge.

According to Rolling Stone Magazine, Perry is in talks with Imagine Entertainment to develop a 3D concert movie.

The recently divorce-paper-filed pop singer hopes that her flick will be a success like Justin Bieber, and not a flop like Glee.
